Dreams, Angels and Hope
This year’s theme is Dreams, Angels and Hope, and as such, the team needs your help to make dreams come true in our community. On top of the existing challenges imposed by the pandemic, there is and has been a high population of families and children living in poverty due to lack of opportunity. Without a helping hand, many will go without the basic necessities of everyday life, and are unable to have, or even imagine a holiday experience of their own. The goal of this Giving Tree Gala is to rally the community in donating much-needed items to fulfill “Holiday Wish Lists” for the at-risk youth and families that Anvil of Hope supports. “We graciously ask for your help to provide hope for the holidays,” says Peter Zien, Co-Owner of AleSmith.
Paying it forward
Anvil of Hope is the brainchild of AleSmith Brewing Company’s owners, Peter and Vicky Zien – merging their shared desire to help others. As a manifestation and extension of their existing brand, the nonprofit aims to support those who need it most. Spearheading the operations of the charity component is AleSmith’s Chief Culture and Community Advocate, Vicky Zien, whose own upbringing has been her inspiration for wanting to pay it forward.
“As the oldest of five growing up in poverty, raised by a single mother who worked two jobs as a seamstress to help our family, I remember all too well the struggles we went through, which continued into young adulthood. Peter and I want to help strengthen the family unit and do our part to prevent those adverse consequences that stem from lack of opportunity and poverty,” says Vicky Zien.

The mission
Last year’s gala helped feed 300 families and provided gifts for Anvil of Hope’s registered families and children – a success that the team hopes to make a tradition in their effort to provide “Hope for the Holidays.”
“Our mission is to provide long-term solutions for families and children in need, through a series of programs including career development, job and skills training, mentoring, education assistance, and financial assistance when needed. Our specific goal of the Anvil of Hope Gala is to provide a modest holiday experience for these families while providing needed hygiene products, a gift for each child, and a nice holiday meal,” says Vicky Zien.
Emceed by Sam Zien, aka “Sam the Cooking Guy”, guests will be treated to an exquisite plated dinner by Wild Thyme Catering and dance to the live music of Vivian Love and Friends. Guests will also have the opportunity
to bid on exciting silent auction items featuring Cheesemaking at Peter Zien’s CheeseSmith Artisan Creamery, VIP AleSmith experience packages, vacation stays, art, and so much more.
Be sure to check out AleSmith’s Tasting Room Christmas tree, which is decorated with the names of families in need and at-risk youth, as well as their holiday wish lists. Donations of hygiene products, non-perishable food, plus wrapping supplies, are also being collected at AleSmith’s Tasting Room between the hours of 2PM and 6PM. Please consider donating and becoming a recurring donor on the Anvil of Hope website: your recurring donation of $10 or more will have a major impact on the lives of our children and the future of our community. About Anvil of Hope
Anvil of Hope is the non-profit brainchild of AleSmith Brewing Company’s owners, Peter and Vicky Zien, who are deeply committed to providing assistance to the San Diego community and beyond. Low-income families, those
who are facing homelessness, at-risk youth and those who are experiencing temporary hardships, are at the heart of their mission. A bevy of services will be offered with the goal being to set individuals up for long-term success rather than simply providing temporary relief. A volunteer staff of “Anvil Angels” and “Angel Partners” will help offer their personal touch and support.
See you there, San Diego!
