On Wednesday, March 24th, join Cork & Knife for an evening of wine tasting with Castelli Family Vineyards! From 5:30PM – 7:30PM, stop by Cork & Knife’s Escondido location to meet and discuss wines with owners Mike Castelli and Nelson Pizarro, along with taste the vineyard’s Syrah and Sangiovese.
The adventure of Castelli Family Vineyards, located in Romona, began when Mike’s daughter decided to get married at Cordiano Winery in 2008. The owner convinced Mike to plant some vines, and a few vines quickly turned into 3,000 vines. Mike soon realized he needed help, which is when he recruited his son-in-law Nelson to join him.
For three years, they spent most days in the vineyard, caring meticulously for each vine. Soon after, Mike built a 1,600 square foot cellar to store the wine. From the beginning, Mike and Nelson realized they needed advice on every aspect of growing, harvesting, and fermenting their grapes. They sought the counsel of neighbors with established vineyards.
The owners shared their valuable knowledge and answered endless questions, ultimately empowering Nelson to turn their hobby focused grapes into award-winning wines.
Wines will be available for tastings, by the glass, and bottles. Cork & Knife will also feature tapas plates, available for $12, to pair with the Castelli Family wines.
Cork & Knife is located at 515 W. 13th Ave, Escondido, 92025.
See you there….and stay healthy, San Diego!
